Hello
Hi, my name is Charlotte Whatmore. I am an artist living in rural North Devon. I mostly work in linocuts and my main inspiration is the natural world, particularly the fauna and flora of my local area. I also really enjoy doing portraits of animals in linocut, especially different breeds of livestock

My Story
Art has always been an important part of my life, growing up my father was a watercolour artist and so much of my practical art knowledge came from him. My passion growing up was my interest in animals and so I went to university to study Zoology, with particular interest in the study of animal behaviour and anatomy. I believe that my in-depth knowledge of animal anatomy is beneficial to my artistic portrayal of different animals and how they move and behave. It was after the birth of my second child that I considered the idea of turning my hobby of producing artwork into a business . I had always loved the style of linocut work and after doing training in linocutting I decided that this was the medium that would like to focus on. I love the bold clean lines of linocuts and find the images are striking and impactful, I also enjoy working with colour contrast.
Animals still play a huge part in my life, we are fortunate to live on a charity run farm that is visited by inner city children. I keep a small breeding flock of Greyface Dartmoor sheep which are a rare breed and whom I absolutely adore! I also keep and breed Silkie chickens, own a naughty lurcher called Loki (was asking for trouble naming him that!) and have numerous other pets in my menagerie.
As well as doing linocuts I also enjoy other arts and crafting, including crocheting and block printing onto fabric. I sometimes attend craft fairs selling these and my linocut work, trading as The Crafty Fox, which you can see on my Facebook page etc.
